It’s not just a show!
I can’t believe it! Arizonaofficials are looking to save water by using waterlessurinals. It’s the musical Urinetown inreal life. I guess art does imitate life.

TARGETED: OSAMA BIN LADEN
I just saw an amazing HistoryChannel documentary about Osama Bin Laden and the rise of Al Qaeda. I thinkthis is a must watch video that will help you understand the war in Iraq and Afghanistanfrom a historical perspective.Featuring former and current CIA agents, Special Forces soldiers, Washington insiders, and best-selling authors such as Mark Bowden (”Black Hawk Down”), Steve Coll (”GhostWars”), Phillip Smucker (”Al Qaeda’s Great Escape”), and Simon Reeve (”The New Jackals”),we take a 2-hour groundbreaking look at the hunt for the world’s #1 archenemy. Filmedin 10 countries around the world, we trace bin Laden’s rise through the Jihad againstthe Soviets in Afghanistan to his present incarnation.TARGETED:OSAMA BIN LADEN travels to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen and Saudi Arabiato tell the story of Bin Laden’s emergence as a global terrorist. See how Bin Ladencame to prominence battling the Soviets in Afghanistan, trace the establishment ofAl Qaeda, and examine his betrayal of the Saudi royal family and the alliance withthe Taliban. Insiders detail how he plotted strikes against U.S. interests in Africa, the Middle East and New York, as well as offering an up-to-the minute look at thehunt for the Al Qaeda leader.

New York City
Photos Copyright 2004 Mark WallaceI’m back from a week of vacation in New York City. I’m not sure going to NewYork qualifies for vacation, but it was a lot of fun. Diane and I went for aweek to see her son Drew. We did as much as we could while we were there. We went to Central Park, toured the Met, saw the Statue of Liberty, went to the EmpireState Building, walked down Wall Street, ate lots of pizza, saw Rent, hung out inTimes Square, went to China Town and Little Italy, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, checkedout art in The Village, visited Ground Zero, and more. I’m exhausted.New York was fun. But I’d take Montana over New York any day! As awesomeas New York City is, it has some major problems. It smells like an outhouse,it’s always noisy, everything is old and rusted, and it’s built for people who are5 feet tall. And the pizza is overrated, it’s good, but not that good. After a week in New York I feel like I’ve been punched in the face. I can onlyimagine what it’s like to live there. Ugh.But the trip was a lot of fun. Hanging out with Drew was worth it. Westayed up late playing Risk, had lots of fun chatting about life, and we got to meet hisgirlfriend who was pretty cool. I really enjoyed seeing the historical sitesin New York. It was inspiring to visit EllisIsland. We actually stood in the room where millions of Immigrants cameto America. We also visited GroundZero, which was a very somber experience.I’ll be posting some of my pictures from the New York trip soon. Stay tuned.

California

Well I’m in California now. Most of my time has been spent in meetings and atthe office. I had a few glitches along the way too. My rental car hada trunk that was stuck open, I didn’t notice it until a few hours after I had thecar. The trunk wasn’t really open, just not closed. But my stuff was inthe trunk, so that could have been really bad. But I got it fixed, no harm done.
My hotel decided to paint my room while I was away, again with my stuff in the room. And they left the door wide open “So the paint would dry.” Nice. I alsodiscovered that my company no longer has maps for the campuses and in California theydon’t paint building names on the actual buildings. Sorta difficult to figureout where to go.
But those were all small things. I have been able to meet a lot of neat people, both here and in Oregon. I’m a bit tired from getting up at 4:00 am every morning, but today was the last day I had to do that.
Next week I’m off to New York City with Diane. Yep, a real vacation. I’mlooking forward to having fun and getting lots of pictures. I’ll keep the blogupdated with the details.
I posted a couple of pictures from today in my NeatPictures gallery. Enjoy.

Oregon trip

I’m currently in Hillsboro Oregon on a short business trip. I left Arizonaat 6:00 this morning and touched down in Hillsboro, just outside of Portland, about9:45am. I was in meetings all day; I was getting to know some of mynew co-workers, and my new manager.
After work I made a mad dash outside to try to get a few shots of the Oregon scenery. Unfortunately the sun was just about to set and so I didn’t have much time. I added my new pictures to my OregonTrip photo album. I’ll be in California on Thursday and Friday, so lookfor more pictures then.
