Goodbye Bob Edwards

The host of NPR’s “Morning Edition” is leaving his post as anchorman. Edwards hasbeen the host of “Morning Edition” since 1979. It seems that his departure is notexactly voluntary.

NPR Spokeswoman Laura Gross said NPR made the change as “part of a natural evolution.”She said “A new host will bring new ideas and perspectives to the show. Bob’s voicewill still be heard; he’ll still be a tremendous influence on the show. We just feltlike it was time for a change.”

Edwards responded to the news by telling reporters “You have to figure it’s goingto happen someday, and you have to get out before they do it. But I failed.” He saidhe was given no specific reason for the change. “It’s the old ‘move the program ina new direction.’ There was no Janet Jackson incident,” he said.

Edwards will remain the host until April 30 and then take on his new assignment assenior correspondent for NPR News.

We’ll miss you Bob, our mornings won’t be the same without you.

Reasonably Questioned…

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has determinedthat he can be objective about his judgment on the Supreme Court case involvinghis old friend Dick Cheney.  Scalia’s21 page memorandum is quite entertaining, and I highly recommend you read it andform your own opinion.  OK, the decision has been made, but what does this sayabout the leaders of our country?First of all, what the heck was Dick Cheney thinking when he took Scalia with himon the hunting trip? And, after three days of hunting, how can Scalia possibly say that his impartialitycannot be reasonably questioned? Secondly, why is President Bush doing nothing about this?  He has, at the veryleast, the appearance of corruption at the highest levels of government, and he hassaid nothing to even address the issue.  I’m supportive of the 13House Republicans who asked Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to withdrawfrom all future cases having to do with abortion du to her affiliation with the NOWLegal Defense and Education Fund.  But why stop there?  We don’t want lawmakers who make political statements, we want law makers who seek justice.Perhaps these were the types of things that came to Senator John Kerry’s mind whenhe stated “These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group I’ve ever seen.” I’m no supporter of Kerry, but you have to admit he’s got a point.  Cheney’sactions with Scalia only underscore the perception, or reality, of government corruption.Lastly, what should we, as citizens do?  We live in a country where we have theright and responsibility to speak up and take action.  Some suggestions:

Some suggestions for Dick Cheney:

Some suggestions for President Bush:

For the record: I voted for President Bush.  I support his Presidency and planto vote for him again, but I may change my mind soon.

Southern Baptists are officially fat!

Ok, well now it’s official, something I’ve known for quite some time, Southern Baptistsare fat.  That’s right, it’s right there on CNN. A nice little story about gluttony, the forgotten sin.  And the worst sinnersappear to be Southern Baptists.  I suspect it’s due to the lack of exercise causedby the lack of dancing.A doctrine I’ve never understood, implied rather than stated; it’s ok to be fat. Just don’t drink, cuss, dance, watch R rated movies, or stay up past ten o-clock. Maybe this little report will change things.Clickhere to read the CNN article.
