Weekend with friends

This weekend was a lot of fun.  Diane and I spent most of it hanging out at the PassionExperience Tour rehearsals catching up with old friends.  ChrisTomlin and David Crowder were bothin Phoenix at the Youth Specialties conference, so they decided to hold rehearsalsfor the tour here.  I was able to catch up with John Mills, Louie and ShelleyGiglio, and Chris Tomlin.  It had beenalmost a year since I was able to spend time with these guys.  I used to workwith them when I was with Student Life.

On Sunday Night we joined the gang at the Youth Specialties conference in downtownPhoenix.  We were there for the evening session, the PassionExperience Tour.  Wow!  If you get a chance make sure you go! They will be in cities all over the country.  It was a great night of worshipand inspiration.

If you haven’t already done so, make sure you pick up a copy of David Crowder’s newCD, Illuminate. Chris Tomlin’s latest CD, Notto Us, is also wonderful.

Art As I See It

My photographyclass has finally begun.  Last night was the first class.  We spenta lot of time talking about image composition.  It was great.  I left classand went over to Diane’s house where I promptly took out my camera and started takingpictures of everything.  I was twisting the camera around (angles and motion),crawling around on the floor (unusual point-of-view), setting up my tripod for close-ups(framing and cropping), and scaring the heck out of Diane’s cat Mossimo. Each week we have homework.  This week the assignment is to share our singlebest photograph that demonstrates the elements of composition, including:  Subject, foreground, background and horizon.  I have to choose the most pleasing phototo me and share it with the class.I’ve created a photo album called PhotographyClass Homework where I’ll be posting my experiments.  Please feel free toe-mail me with suggestions.  I’m learning a lot and I’m sure you could show mesomething new.

My nephew is a genius!

My nephew, Jordan, created a video for a school project.  It’s all about castlesin europe.  He even postedit to the web so others could learn about castles.  I watched the video tonightand was so impressed that I thought I would let everyone else know about it. I think we might have a young documentary film maker on our hands!Click here to see thevideo. Understanding Histograms

Finally, a great article on the mysterious histogram.  I own a Canon 10D andit displays a histogram for every picture I take, until I read this article I didn’treally know what I was seeing.  Now I see the histogram as one of the most usefultools in my digital photography toolbox.

Donnie Darko is coming to Madstone

It’s true, DonnieDarko is on it’s way to theaters as part of Madstone’sPremier Pic Series.  This is one crazy film and I can’t wait to see it onthe big screen.  My friend Bill and I watched it on one of our movie nights andhave talked about it ever since.

Undoubtedly one of today’s cult classics, “Donnie Darko” is a science fiction, fantasyfilm with feet planted firmly in the mundane ins-and-outs of daily high school lifein suburbia. While Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) may seem like the typical maladjustedteenager, he is, in fact, far from typical. Borderline delusional, Donnie is besetby visions of a monstrous rabbit named Frank, who tries to keep him under a sinisterinfluence. Prompted by this apparition, Donnie commits antisocial acts, survives thevagaries of high-school life and romance, and escapes a bizarre death when an unexplainedjet engine drops into his room. Donnie battles his demons, literally and figuratively,in a series of intertwining story lines that explore time travel, fate, predestinationand the machinations of the universe.

Don’t miss the Donnie Darko website, itwill give you the feel of the movie.
